It may be proper period ... illisible ... in the year 1799. His Majesty was pleased to grant me permission to enter the Austrian Service wich I did and remained till the end of the year 1801. Serving during this period in a Regient of Cavalry and during wich time I served three campaign with the Austrian Army of the Rhine was in many considerable actions with the enemy and was present at the decisive Battles of Hohenlinden and Salzburg.

Cornet 13.10.1800 - Late 24th Light Dragons - One year and a half on leave of absence in Germany

Lieutenant by purchase in 1802 - Late 24th Light Dragons - About half a year On leave of absence in Germany. It may be here proper to remark that the period of leave of absence after I quitted the Austrian Service was employed in receiing Military Instruction from the Engineer Academy of Vienna

Captain by purchase 24.10.1802 - ... illisible... inted Riflemen - ...years ...month - Was near two years upon the Half Tray of this Regiment. Appointed a temporary assistant Quarter Master General in the Eastern District. In June 183 moved into the Southern.

Captain - 48th Foot Regiment - Served three years
23rd Novembre 1804 was appointed a Captain in the 48th Foot. In 1805 went as assistant major with the Expedition to Germany under the orders of Lieutenant General Don. Remained during part of the year 1806 with the Army under the commandf Lord Cathcart in Germany. Returned in 1806 with the troops in England and was placed as a temporary assistant major in the Southern District.

Early in 1807 accompanied the Kings German Legion as assistant major to the Island of Rugen and was present at the commencement of the Siege of Stralsund by the French. Was moved from thence to the Island of Zealand and was present at te action of Kioge and the Siege of Copenhagen.
Major 5th November 1807 - Permanent Staff - Near two years

Late in November 1807 returned with the troops to England and was continued in the Quarter Master General Department of the Southern Division. In January 1808 was appointed to the Irish Staff as assistant major removed from thence in Aprl and accompanied Lieutenant Colonel Murray on a military mission to the court of Stockholm returning with the troops from Gottenburg under the command of Sir John Moore and proceeded direct with them to Portugal Army through Spain to Coruna was present at the battle of Coruna. Returned to England in February 1809. Was sent to Ramsgate for a month to disembark the troops from Spain. Then reappointed to the Irish Staff and in June 1809 appointed to the staff of the army under the command of the Earl of Chatham. Was at the entire of the Siege of Flushing and present at most of the actions with the enemy in front of that fortress. Acquainted with the German and French languages.
